Hi I have been trying to diagnose why my pc won't even post - eventually I think I have narrowed it down to the ram:

The PC boots when the first stick of ram is installed

The PC does not boot when second stick is installed

The PC does not boot when both sticks are installed.

(I have 2x 4gb Corsair vengeance 1866 ram)

Can anyone tell me why the pc won't boot when this second stick of ram is installed ( it has been running for months now with 2 sticks installed and it randonly wouldn't power up this morning).

Does the second stick work in the slot where the first stick is installed?

The second stick doesn't work where the first stick did - I know it sounds exactly like dead ram it just seems odd it would break with no perceivable cause.

It's definitely a dead stick then.

I have received the replacement ram from corsair and my computer booted up perfectly and is running great - It is much more stable now than I have been for the past year, now I'm just waiting for the money back from corsair as I used the express RMA !!!
