So where to begin? I know very little about servers or how to set them up or run them. I am going to make a personal server. Help me understand what a NAS drive is. I have built a computer before but never a server. So.. Help me tell me what I need. What parts to I need? I already have a server rack so Im making it in a 2U set up(i think thats a size)

Begin with what you want out of it. Can help much with the system it self without that.

The NAS drive is a network attached storage drive. All pc's on the network can access files on the NAS. Also if you set it up you can access your NAS from anywhere via internet.

If I use words like probably or most likely, it is because I dislike certainty. These words can probably be omitted and the sentence read as a certainty.

Well, I asume you want a NAS, a server is like a NAS with lots of potential for extra functinality, so I will focus on a NAS.  A NAS, Network attatched storage, holds data and can be connected to by other clients, devices, on the network.  I would reccomend FreenAS, Tek Syndicate has a very good setup video I would reccomend watching, even before buying parts just so you understand.  But basically a NAS is built like a PC  Drive(S), you should have multiple drives in a raid 5 or 6 to justify a NAS, a cpu, ram, a gpu if u want one, but not necessary, but on a NAS you really want a NIC(a pci expansion card that has ethernet ports on it).  You build the PC like you would, but you will boot into freenas and install it, again follow tek syndicates guide, lemme know if u have any, hopefully more specific XD, questions

I can help with programming and hardware.
