G2 650W?

Go to solution Solved by HKZeroFive,

Great PSU. Pretty much as good as you're going to get.

That said, don't try to SLI the GTX 960s (I'm assuming that's what you're saying) and just get a R9 390 down the road instead.

Hello, I am considering a power supply that was suggested by a user on another forum. I wanted to check here first. My current build has a X4 860K and a 960. My current PSU is a CX430M from corsair. I haven't had any problems with it YET, but I have heard how terrible it is. Now I know 650 is a lot, but I want some breathing room just in case I decide to go SLI later down the road.

Obviously I won't SLI 960 but I just want to have plenty of room.

I'd typically go for a 750W for two 980s so if that's what you're planning to SLI then you might want a little bump in overhead overclocking room, but two 960s is more than OK on 650W, just a 390 would be a much better way of spending that money.

My account is almost entirely dormant. Hope you all are having a grand time. Many years of fun were had here.

I'd just stick your CX430M, you're not running a power hungry system at all, and it'll be fine for that. I mean the G2 650 is an outstanding power supply, but it's completely unneeded for your system. Buy your new power supply when you actually need the power instead of going way overkill in the off chance you ever want to run a multi-card setup. Once again, your CX430M is fine for that system. You don't want a CX power supply if you're running a huge CPU overclock and a power hungry GPU(s), but for an 860k and a 960 it's not going to have any trouble powering your system.

But I am going to oc my CPU to 4.0 very soon. Is that ok?
