upgrade question

Go to solution Solved by stealth80,

yup, I can't guarantee for windows 10, but XP, 7 and 8 were fine for me going from Athlon 64 to intel Pentium dc onto a 860 i7 then from there to a 3770k and onto my current 4790k, I changed chipset on all 3 of those windows

when i upgrade will i have to buy a new copy of windows or is there a way to keep my current windows install? (i have an oem key btw)

Got an RC? head over to The Rc Thread and tell us about it, or you can just discuss rc in general there as well.

I think changing motherboard might need a new install of windows, but not 100% sure. Would love for someone to clarify this for me.

Also, I don't think you can reuse an OEM Windows license. You might need to purchase a new copy.

I've never required to change my windows, even using OEM. At worst it doesn't activate automatically and requires the use of the automated toll free phone number
