If you have an ssd and an NVME compatible setup (and that kind of cash) then I'd wait.. But it's always only going to get cheaper.

With the advent of 4TB drives though, maybe we'll see the cost per GB drop soon.

It's very hard to say but the price will only go down...

I don'T PreSS caPs.. I juST Hit THe keYboARd so HarD iT CriTs :P

waiting is always the best option, it just depends if you need it right now

It depends.. Different strokes for different folks and all..

It's a good time in that they have never been cheaper or faster.

It's a bad time in that there are major developments in both capacity and speed about to hit the mainstream. (though how fast remains to be seen)

Is it good for you:

What is your current system? Does it support NVME?, if not when is your next upgrade??

What do you want 500GB of SSD storage for (use)?

NVME is the way the disk and system interact, it replaces AHCI which was designed for HDD's not SSD's.

Your system is compatible... next is, do you want to wait for more performance or GB/$

So there have been 2 new drives released with 4TB worth of storage.. thats a massive jump from the previous 1TB - 1.2TB that was the biggest.

It's just a question of how long NVME and this higher capacity filters from halo products down to more mainstream.. I think in 6 months to a year we COULD see 1 TB NVME drives for the $200 - $250 mark..

But it's hard to tell.

Up to you to decide what you want to do. Or even if the NVME drives speed will be worth the wait for you... Then it's just trading capacity and when the next big break-through will be.

I hope I haven't confused you, just trying to help you make an informed decision.

i know that I have my system at AHCI right now, so if i switched to an SSD what do I change it to?

Only a few high end SSD's have NVME so far... AHCI is used by SSD's but is a bottle -neck that NVME resolves.Look for a video on NVME or intel 750 or samsung 950
