When playing certain games I get these error messages (mainly on Battlefront) i assume its suggesting that I ran out of VRAM yet my GPU has 4GB (R9 380X) and has been running games fine up until the past week where I keep getting all of these messages. Its fine when I boot up (sometimes) but later on it messes up.

Any ideas? I've tried different drivers

Generally that's an "out of RAM" (or close to it) warning

could you show us the graph from afterburner that charts memory usage during gaming?

Solve your own audio issues  |  First Steps with RPi 3  |  Humidity & Condensation  |  Sleep & Hibernation  |  Overclocking RAM  |  Making Backups  |  Displays  |  4K / 8K / 16K / etc.  |  Do I need 80+ Platinum?

If you can read this you're using the wrong theme.  You can change it at the bottom.

I usually have at least 1GB left, never been an issue before

I don't think this has anything to do with your VRAM, but your system RAM instead.

It looks like you also have a pagefile enabled.  This is true, yes?

open my computer, right click and go properties, click advanced system settings, click the settings button under performance, click the advanced tab, and then click change

This is it, should I let it automatically manage it instead? Would that work better

Thinking about it I did make the 'Backup' partition smaller near that time, could that have affected it

I don't think so.  It looks fine.  I just wanted to make sure it was turned on since those kinds of out of memory errors can pop up without one even when you have not used close to 100%.

My gut feeling is that you are not actually out of memory, but the game is just tripping windows' warning system since you are using most of your RAM, and all with one program.  It's just suggesting you close it to free memory :)

Battlefront then closes and sometimes both my screens turn off and wont come back on until I reset my computer, can't be just that surely?

Well that does sound like it is completely out then... my suggestion would be to try adding more memory since games are starting to push beyond 8 GB these days, but I realize that may not be possible or easy for cost or other reasons.

Even though windows should automatically increase the page file size as needed the way you have it set now, it might not hurt to give it more room that way and see how it goes.

I'll try, I'm hoping to upgrade my CPU, Motherboard, RAM and case soon so have to wait until then I suppose

Set it to have it on all drives but 'downloads' and set it to sort it out itself, only time will tell now!

Just so you know, make sure to have on on each drive, literally.  As in, if there is a partitioned drive with F and G, don't put one on F and G, since that will actually be slower as the head jumps back and forth between the two page files.  Put on file on each physical drive (on the fastest partition too if that applies).

I've just set it to 'Automatically manage paging file size for all drives'

Well hopefully windows knows better how to do that then, but I have a feeling what that really means is "one paging file for each partition", which if you have more than one partition on a drive is not ideal...

This is just temporary to test though so I guess it doesn't really matter.

Check what you have running in memory, 8 gig should be more than enough for gaming. As a betting man you probaly are running into a memory leak. I suggest trying to reinstall the game's API software your game is running and check your game files for croupted data. In the case of HL2 generaly means DX9/ direct X and your game files.

Forgot to mention your drivers are out of date, 16.1.1 is the current release:
