The IBM Dankpad

Cwazywazy

IBM Thinkpad T60, dubbed the Dankpad. Because of 420s and stuff.

It's a 14 inch 4:3 Thinkpad I got for free. Pretty basic, 1024x768 TN panel, 2GHz Core 2 T2500, Intel GMA 945, etc. Came with a 2GB and .5GB DDR2 sticks, running at like 555MHz or whatever. Swapped it out for a single 800MHz 2GB stick, later I'll find another for 4GB. I'll find some way to pop an old half size WiFi N chip in place of the full size G chip. Maybe get Bluetooth while I'm at it. I'll probably find an old one on eBay with a dedicated GPU and hopefully the higher res screen. New battery, SSD, etc.

It's pretty beat up. Fall damage on the side and stuff. Replaced the stock paste on the CPU with some IC Diamond, cleaned out the dust, and it runs very cool, especially after undervolting. I'm talking <55c under full load. That'll probably change when I get a board with a GPU though. I might just buy a T60p that's missing stuff and make one really clean laptop. Anyway, I took off the keyboard, palmrest thing, and the bezel. Took the touchpad out of the palmrest and washed it all, minus said touchpad, to get rid of the gunk and cigarette smell. If washing it breaks the keyboard I won't really care since I plan on getting a parts laptop soon anyway. The battery seems to work fine, I don't even have a charger yet. I've been using it on the charge it came with and my portable battery pack. Popped in a 150GB HDD and installed Win 7 x86. (32 bit CPU.) It seems to be working well so far, but I just hate how big the damn pixels are at 1024x768. Ah well.

It also supports an "ultrabay" battery. Basically a battery in place of the disk drive. I haven't seen/used one of those since my Latitude D600 years ago so I'mma get one of those too. When I'm done building it I'll use it for, uh.. Watching old TV shows in 4:3? I dunno. It's a cool laptop.

Nice laptop. The old Thinkpads are indestructible tanks.

I speak the honest truth with a bit of snark mixed in. I'm sorry if it doesn't line up with your beliefs.

Yup. I love the old design (Basically the same as the PIII T20 I had a long time ago with a touchpad) paired with somewhat decent hardware.

Kek... I've 2 of these but older and without screen, one with a Celeron 370 M and the other has no CPU but an ATI 7500

The one with the ATI, is that a T60?

IDK, the only sticker says "type 2668" and the first google results say T43

The model would be on the right bottom side of the screen bezel..
