I'm getting a third screen from a friend (VGA) and I have 2 Vga screens atm.

- One is connected with a VGA --> DVI adapter

- One is connected with a VGA --> Displayport adapter

I have an empty HDMI slot on my GPU (Sapphire HD 7950 boost).

Will it work if I buy a vga to hdmi adapter?

As it's pre GCN 1.1 and not a Flex variant you'll need an active displayport adapter for one of the monitors.

(This is the case for digital signals and I'm fairly sure it's the same for analogue)

The displayport adapter is a club 3D one. I think it's an active adapter.

You will need to use an active adapter for the third monitor due to a restriction on legacy connections.

If it's active then you're perfectly fine, if it's passive you may run into issues, I'm not 100% sure on the situation with analogue monitors so you may want to wait for a response from someone who has experience.

Do I need an extra active adapter of the third screen or can I use the one from the second screen?

Then I will have the following setup:

- one : vga to dvi

- two: vga to DP (active)

- three: vga to HDMI

And what about if I sell the screen and buy a DVI screen? then it would be:

- one: vga to dvi

- two: vga to DP (active)

- three: DVI

If I'm not mistaken, the adapters will have to be active anyway, given that it's converting from digital to analogue, a simple passive adapter shouldn't work at all.
