Network storage solution

Djones09

Hello, I've been having some trouble with deciding which way to go with network storage. I was thinking about getting a NAS box and putting HDD's in it, I also thought about sticking the hdd's in my computer and just enabling them to be accessed throughout my network, but I'm not sure I have enough sata ports for that. I'm thinking about getting an Asus RT-AC66U (http://www.asus.com/Networking/RTAC66U/), this router is pretty awesome, and has a lot of features for network storage, sharing, and cloud computing. You can get an app for your phone (Ai Cloud), and you can access your computers, and drivers from anywhere. I figured I could get a hard drive enclosure (http://us.ncix.com/products/?sku=71046&vpn=NST-640SU3-BK&manufacture=Vantec) and throw 4 WD RED 2TB (http://us.ncix.com/products/?sku=74268&vpn=WD20EFRX&manufacture=Western%20Digital%20WD&promoid=1302) and connect it to the usb in the back of the router and access the drives via the network. I'm getting 30mbps down, 22mbps up so I know i'll be able to transfer files between the drive and my computers quickly. I'm going to school for film, and I figured it would be awesome to be able to access all of my files in case I leave them at home. Or If me and class mates were working on a project, I could just set up a private cloud for them to download and share project files. I'm just trying to see what other people are using, and which option you guys think would work out best for me. I'd greatly appreciate any help with this.

i would personally go for a NAS enclosure. i only have experience with a 4 bay synology NAS so i cannot comment on this one. i also have no experience with cloud sharing either, BUT that looks like on hell of a router :)

if you are looking for insane storage then i would recommend some 4tb hitachi deskstars. i use them in my NAS and i have 16TB of storage now which is super awesome smiley face!
