Usb over current

Go to solution Solved by VoyexTech,

Ok I tried to fix the problem it turns out I forgot the plastic spacers between the motherboard and the case and fried the board I just bought a new one

I have an issue where the usbs that are integrated into my motherboard don't work without displaying a "USB overcurrent computer will shut down in 15 seconds to protect the mainboard" error if anything I'd plugged in or not.

This all started when I removed my motherboard to find a graphics card crew that I lost in there then I decided to rewire the pc to cable manage it.

Is there anyway I forget to plug something ln?

Did I fry my mother board?

P.S if I take out all the ram the pc will not shut off in 15 seconds is that because there was an issue with the dimm slot or that it won't boot to the bios to display the error?

System specs:

PC Manufacturer: IBuyPower

OS: Windows 10

Motherboard: $50 Msi

Graphics: AMD R7 250X

Cpu: Intel I5 4690K

Power: Stock 250W

Storage: 128gb ssd, WD Blue 1tb, Seagate 2tb

Ram: Kingston HyperX fury 1600mhz 8gbx2

Additional: 1 DVD drive

Sorry I don't exactly know my motherboard model :(

I have an Anet A8 as my project printer and a i3 MK3 for when I want things to work.

I extrude my own filament and haven't saved a penny yet.

My PC:

Spoiler

CPU: Intel i7 8700k

Motherboard: MSI Z370-A Pro

RAM: G.Skill Ripjaws V (2x8GB) DDR4-3200

the device connected to the usb port is drawing too much power from the computer
perhaps make sure that you connected the 4/8pin cpu power ? would be surprising. but who knows.

I had this issue on a custom PC I built. I believe it was from the IO shield making bad contact with a USB slot and shorting out.

The steps I took to fix it were thus:

1. Remove the motherboard

2. Replace the motherboard being very careful with the rear io

3. Before starting the machine, put plastic/rubber caps in all the usb ports

3TUF-X99-dust-defenders-2.jpg

When it then started up without the error, I one at a time replaced the plastic plugs with the devices I wanted to put in right away.

No idea. The plugs came with my motherboard or I wouldn't have known what to do either.

Should be super easy to find on amazon.

remove the mobo from the case, put it a cardboard box, plug in only the essential components (your CPU has iGP, so no need to plug the video card) and peripherals and boot it up - does it still do it?!

it does - RMA time

it doesn't - start adding components one by one and test with each

inspect the case for any misplaced standoffs or any other metal bits that don't belong in the mobo area
