Computer random lockup

1Revenger1

I recently was just playing American Truck Sim (came out today) when my computer locked up. The reset button didn't even work, and I had to use the power button to force shut it down. Fine then, I reboot. When I do, my computer randomly just stops and resets. Nothing else has happened, and I have checked Event viewer, which said nothing except that windows was not shut down correctly. I believe this was some instability, as I do have my 6600k overclocked to 4.6ghz at 1.312-1.325 volts. What are your guys opinions? It is the first time it has happened.

First, thanks for reminding me to get the game, haha

Yes, the problem is almost definitely the overclock, I would reset it to it's normal setting

Alright. If it is stable there, should I try an overclock with possibly more voltage/lower clock speed? Or should I just keep it at stock and not overclock at all.

After overclocking your chip, did you stress test it? American Truck Simulator shouldn't be particularly taxing, but it would still be a good idea to see if your system is stable under an artificial 100% load. Additionally, it sounds like it may have been a hard lock from your GPU. Is it overclocked?

Yes, I did stress test it using Aida 64 over night, and I also play Microsoft Flight Sim a lot which pins the CPU quite a bit. My GPU is not overclocked, but I did change the fan profile to make it higher at lower temps, otherwise stock settings.

If you do need to overclock, put it at 4 flat, otherwise this may happen again, and it will definitely lower the life of the CPU
