Try clearing your CMOS and then boot into BIOS to make sure your boot order is correct. make sure you have your storage drive with your OS as the first option and I usually disable all the other options.

Already tried that buddy, that doesn't work. If you watch the video you will also see no matter what the computer doesn't even POST.

Does your motherboard have a onboard graphics? maybe remove the GPU and all the RAM except one stick and try to start it up. I know this sounds weird but ive also had this happen before. needless to say Ive encountered a lot of problems in the years ive been troubleshooting computers. If it works go through and check the boot options and then reseat the GPU and try to start up again.

I had something like this happen to me before, turned out being

metal touching something it shouldn't have been. Have you tried

building on a box outside of the case?

i5 4670k| Asrock H81M-ITX| EVGA Nex 650g| WD Black 500Gb| H100 with SP120s| ASUS Matrix 7970 Platinum (just sold)| Patriot Venom 1600Mhz 8Gb| Bitfenix Prodigy. Build log in progress

I have taken it all out and put it on a bench with a anti-static matt under it and that still didn't change anything.

yeah only use the storage device that your OS is on.

So this is what I would do step by step:

Take out all the RAM except ONE stick

Remove the GPU

Unplug all storage devices except the device your OS is on.

If it still fails try a different stick of RAM, this will eliminate the possiblity of it being a RAM issue.

If it still fails unplug your storage device with the OS and see if it will post at all. IF it does it probably means you need to reformat your drive and do a fresh install of windows or whatever OS you have or your storage device is bad.

if after all of that and it still doesnt work than it means your motherboard, power supply, or CPU is the problem in which case you could try swapping them out if you have extras lying around or you can see if someone else has one you can borrow.

What size is your power supply?

  • 2 weeks later...

I've run into this at least a half dozen times with computers I've worked on. I'm currently working on a 2009 era Acer that wouldn't POST and was power cycling repeatedly. Replaced the BIOS battery and it turned on without a problem.

On your specific motherboard, the BIOS battery is in front of the first PCIe x16 slot, which is a really weird placement. Probably why you weren't sure if you had one!

As far as testing goes, on an analog battery tester if it's not past the second "O" in "GOOD" then you should replace it. Car remotes use the same type of battery (CR2032), so that would be an easy way to check it. Or you can just replace it, they're ~$5 and you should find them at any place you can buy batteries.

Good luck, hopefully it's just the battery!
