So this is a tricky one, every once in a while my system will shut off. Not just windows entering the shutdown mode and waiting a while to completely shut down, I mean total shutdown in a second. I couldn't figure out how  this was happening and i thought it happened once my CPU maxed out its performance because it only happens when in game. Help is much appreciated, thanks in advance

CPU: FX-6300 (non OC'd)

GPU: R9 380

PSU: Some coolmax one. sorry i dont know the name

What's the wattage of the PSU?

The R9 300 series cards use a lot of power in the high-end cards. You probably need at least a 650w to feed that card and CPU.

I'm going to assume that overdraw protection on the PSU kicks in and kills the system. Either that or your VRMs are overheating and overheat protection kicks in and shuts it down.

Could you be more specific? What motherboard do you have? Also, could you post the label from your PSU here?

R9 380 consumes about 300w at load http://www.anandtech.com/show/9784/the-amd-radeon-r9-380x-review/13

FX-6300 is about 230w at load http://www.tomshardware.com/answers/id-1729936/amd-6300-power-consumption.html

So if your 650w PSU was even 85% efficient you would only have roughly 560w to work with. Leaving 30w or so for peripherals, fans, consumption spikes, etc.

85 percent efficiency does not mean your psu can only deliver 560w..
