Hello all :)

My PC that i have had for around 2.5 years now is starting to have serious temperature problems. This has only started to happened recently but my CPU under full load is hitting 100C and at around 80 - 90C when playing games (CSGO, BF4) on a stock I5 3570K (3.40Ghz) :|. I tried a prime95 stress test and immediately it hit 95 - 100C :(. Idle temperature seem to be warmer than i would like (30 - 40C) but nothing absurd. Can anyone explain to me why my CPU temps have skyrocketed all of a sudden? Nothing has changed hardware wise, i haven't tinkered with the clock speeds or voltage. I am using a Corsair H60 2013 edition to "cool" my system, could that have gone faulty after 2.5 years or is it as simple as replacing the thermal paste? I recently cleared out the majority of the dust, the only thing i haven't done is reset the CPU cooler, but wanted another opinion before i buy some isopropyl alcohol and thermal paste. Room temperature is around 18C.

Cheers  :D

make sure the pump of the h60 is running. thermal paste wont make THAT much of a difference.

I would reset the Cooler, maybe take another (better not equal more expensive) thermal paste. For cleaning you could also go with brake cleaner, Aceton or some kind of disinfectant if you dont have isopropyl alcohol at home :D (but isopropyl alcohol isn't that expensiv and I use it alot for cleaning so I would buy some anyway)

Than benchmark again and look for a better or maybe worse result, I heard once of a broken temp. sensor in a CPU (in that special case only 1 of 4sensors show crazy temps) but I think that isnt likely.

The  3570K Heatsink isn't soldered.

If everything fail and you otherwise have to buy a new one you could "cut the heatsink of the CPU of, and put new better thermal paste on the CPU DIE, than stick the CPU Heatsink with some thermal resistant silicone on the DIE" (in german this would be called "köpfen" I duno the english spelling)

Could be a problem with the cooler. Try replacing the thermal paste and see if that helps. If you have a spare cooler lying around, try that and see if you are getting the same issues.

My h75 cooled 290x had shot up from 40-50c underload and idle at 30~c(when I first installed the h75) to 70-80c depending on what I'm loading it with and idle at 40c instead, replaced the thermal paste, remounted the cooler, made sure that the fans and pump was plugged in, temps went straight back down while still having a hotter ambient temp...3 months later, it's back at 60-80 under load and 40 idling...while being in the winter with my window open (aka, 10~c ambient temps instead of the summer's 20c, we don't keep heating on as when ever we do, I turn it off immediately...)

Looking at my signature are we now? Well too bad there's nothing here...
