Need help

Go to solution Solved by Trikein,

Need a bit more info on the issue. What are you using the ethernet to connect the PC to? A router? A modem? If you are connecting a new PC to a stand alone modem, which would only have 1 ethernet on the back, then you need to reboot the modem for the PC to get a IP.

If you are connecting to a router, are you getting a IP? Windows Key + R > CMD > Ipconfig. There will be a bunch of stuff, but what you are looking for will look something like this:

Windows IP Configuration
Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection 2:

   Connection-specific DNS Suffix  . :
   IPv4 Address. . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.136
   Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0
   Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.1

PS. You said you tried with a new cable in the living room. How do you have a ethernet connection in your room and the living room? Do you have ethernet jacks in every room? If so, what connects them all together?

I have just completed my first computer build everything went ok but when I plug in the Ethernet cable I have no internet I went out to my living room and try with a new cable still nothing I can't think of anything or what to do so I really hope some of you people can help thanks

Go on the ASUS website and download the drivers if you have not already done that. Are you running Windows 10?

The Asus Z170 looks to use Intel® Ethernet (i-219V). What OS are you using? If Windows 10 64bit, then you can find the driver here. If you use a different OS, see the link by mclarence.

Yes, download the driver onto a USB.  Then insert the USB into the PC and go to: Windows Key + R > devmgmt.msc > Network Adapters > Should see a little yellow ! next to the adapter missing a driver. Double click on it then go to Driver tab and click update driver and browse for the file on the USB.

Yea I'm running Windows 10 do I install the driver on a usb? If not how?

Just download the driver onto a USB stick from another PC. Surprisingly, W10 should install a generic driver and then download the proper one.
