Hey everyone, i would just like some ideas on good gaming monitors. I am looking for a 24-25 inch screen, 144hz, g sync, 1ms response time and something that is able to use a vesa mount for the future when i do eventually wall mount them, and something that is not too crazy in price so maybe less than $500 give or take.

Thank you heaps in advance! :)

Oh yeah and what are your thoughts on widescreen for gaming?

depend what games you play, not all games support it and some games are just stretched out to some extent to fill the screen...might get better support in the future or maybe not...99.9% of the people are gaming on 16:9 resolutions so obviously 21:9 take the backseat in developers mind...also it's not great for shooters since it mess with your aim a bit but you can get used to it. If you play a lot of racing/sim games it can be pretty good. But 144hz 21:9 will cost you a pretty penny...this is your cheapest option:

so you'd have to go with a 60hz monitor if you go ultra wide...up to you to see if it's worth it for you. :)

This monitor i linked...i wouldnt spend 1000$ on a 1080p TN monitor...it just does not make sense.

Yeah i get what you mean, so the monitor you recommended would be good for gaming? And what are your thoughts on the monitor you are personally using yourself?

no i'm not but it's one of the most commonly used panel among gamers and it's very good the reviews for it are very good and it's priced well that's why i suggested it you can't go wrong.

If you want to stick to 1080p, and you do not want Gsync....but you want 144hz then IMHO this is the perfect monitor for you.

You can't get IPS panels that are doing 144hz at 1080p so this is the next best thing.

You have to understand, 1080p is kinda ''yesterday'' if you want a gaming monitor with 144hz and an IPS panel you have to go to 1440p which is more GPU demanding but it does look a lot better. (GTX 970/780ti or R9 290X/390 GPU minimum IMHO)

What i'm saving for is the gtx 980ti, which is why i wanted a like decent monitor that is 144hz, g sync and a 1 ms response time.

The first monitor i was looking was https://www.pccasegear.com/products/31962/acer-predator-xb240h-24in-144hz-g-sync-gaming-monitor but i wanted to see what other people would have recommended as this will be my first pc build.

maybe you'll get more recommendation later...this acer monitor is also quite good but it's pretty much the same as the Asus one i linked but in a different casing...but it has Gsync so it's quite a bit more expensive.

Also, GTX 980ti is quite a bit overkill for 1080p IMHO...you should wait for next gen pascal based GPU's and grab a mid range card which should perform quite well and cost you around 450$ or something like that.

16:9 WS gaming has been around for ages, I think the new trend is Ultra Wide gaming which is 21:9 aspect ratio. I'd recently gotten a 29" 2560x1080 AOC UW monitor to try out on my FX8350/2x HD7950 rig and I can honestly say I'm pleased with what I see and the performance I get. Most games work flawlessly at 21:9, though like EyeFinity, the figures on the sides of the screen do appear a little stretched, while those figures and such at the center of the screen are just fine. Like EyeFinity (I do have an EF setup with triple 24" monitors on my main rig), I find 21:9 gaming to be more immersive since there's more screen real estate available to me.

Below is a list of Gsync monitors available at newegg, having tried out UW 21:9 gaming, my personal fave would be the Asus Predator X34.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&DEPA=0&Order=BESTMATCH&Description=gsync+monitors&N=-1&isNodeId=1

I've heard read that Samsung and LG IIRC (and one more monitor brand that I can't for the life of me recall), will be making even bigger screen UW monitors later on in the year......can't wait for them to hit the shelves, then I'd wait a little longer for prices to get a little more real before buying!

Below is another reason why I'm dead set on 21:9 monitors from now on....no more black bars on top and below like on 16:9 monitors.

would be something like this one which is 2560x1440 with 144hz but no Gsync...450$ or so:

that would be worth it if you have plans to buy a powerful graphics card (GTX 980/780ti or R9 390/390X for example) ideally a GTX 980ti or next gen equivalent performing GPU.

I do not think i will be going any higher than 25 inch because of desk space, from my planning i am able to fit my pc and maybe two 25 inch monitors max.

But will not having G sync play a large part in possible screen tearing?

Because i am planning to have the second monitor hooked up to my Xbox, so it will switch between PC and Xbox through a HDMI Splitter, and the first monitor for pc gaming sort of thing.

you can have both your Xbox and your PC hooked to the same monitor and switch from one to the other too.

Yeah but if i want to be able to watch something on the other monitor or something.

But do you feel it would be better to get a 27 inch monitor?

Ahhh, OK, that cleared it up. Hmmmm, then get one of those 24" monitor in the list, you can spend more on the one for your PC since you want Gsync and such, and buy a relatively cheap one for your Xbox......they don't necessarily have to be the same, as long as the size are.

Dangit, though I'm not from the US myself, I usually assume everyone else is. Anyway, for that price, I think it's reasonable since it's pretty near the US price for it. Now, IF I were to buy one here locally, it'd cost me a damn sight more than even 1200 (AUD is almost parity with local currency in my neck of the woods).
