Hi all,

So for the last 4 days, I noticed that whenever I would start typing, some of the keys/letters weren't keeping up with my typing speed so therefore misspelling A LOT of words.

The computer itself DOES NOT seem to be running slower. I was worried that this problem would be due to a keylogger and thought that my AV (bitdefender) had failed me.

Yesterday night, I reformatted both my SSD and HDD before attempting to do a clean/fresh install of Windows 10 (64-bit).

One thing I noticed was that when using the arrow keys in the BIOS to navigate around the menus, THERE WAS STILL LAG!!!

So I continued with the fresh install anyways as I started to believe it might be a RAM issue. Please note that the problem has NOTHING to do with sticky/filter keys.

After the clean install, I then ran memtest86 (overnight). Nothing.

I then removed all the ram sticks and put them all back in one-by-one, I thought this fixed the problem this morning, but here we are again.

I tried using my current USB keyboard on my laptop and I could type just fine without any lag/delay, so the problem isn't the keyboard.

I have also dusted out the entire tower with canned co2.

I've also tried removing the HDD and running only the SSD (AND VICE VERSA) and the problem still persists.

A SIDE NOTE: While in the Windows 10 installation running via USB, the lag was still there when I was typing in my Windows Product Key Number.

I started typing the same sequence into notepad so I could show everyone what I am facing.

I typed each paragraph(if you will), at separate times. I type at an average of 89 WPM

The misspellings you see below is of the "typing" not being able to keep up with me.

***Typing this thread has been a pain****

Here's an example of the problem I'm facing:

Try a different keyboard. If the issue persists it has to be a USB driver or OS software issue. If the issue goes away then it could be the keyboard, or it could be a driver issue.

You could go to device manager and find your keyboard and uninstall the device and check the box to remove the software. Then unplug and replug the keyboard and wait for it to reinstall.

If you normally run the keyboard on the rear ports, try your front USB ports. Or if you have USB 2.0 & USB 3.0 (different colors) ports, try switching between those.

Main reason is to ensure you're connecting to a different USB controller, to test if that one is having issues.

Considering you had the same problem in BIOS, it appears to be more of a hardware issue. Also make sure your keyboard doesnt have a frequency switch which may have been toggled.

I don't have another keyboard to test with. The next best thing was when I used the same keyboard and plugged it into my laptop. I didn't test it for too long but I tested it for long enough. There were no lag issues when using the same keyboard on my laptop. It only happens when it is plugged into my desktop.

I was afraid and didn't want to believe this was a hardware issue, but I think you're right. I just don't know what to narrow it down to. I normally use the back USB 2.0 ports for the keyboard and mouse. I have tried switching over to the front USB 3.0 slots and the problem still prevails. I don't think there's a frequency switch on this keyboard as I don't see one. I am currently running memtest86 again and am currently in pass 3/4. Again, I have tested the same keyboard, using it on my laptop, and there is no lag. It HAS to be something wrong with the desktop hardware. I just don't know what exactly.

You could use a linux livecd to test if keyboard works on the same hardware but different software. If that's the case you could try reinstalling chipset and usb drivers, and then even doing a Windows repair install.

I'll try that after the memtest86 is finished. But keep in mind that the lag is still there even when I'm in the BIOS menu.

I missed that buddy, sorry. That's crazy. If it's in BIOS then you are prob not going to get any results with livecd, drivers, software fixes.

You said issue was on USB2 and USB3 ports? Is there any way you can borrow another keyboard to see if another keyboard has the same issue? That's really the next step to take to get some conclusive results.

K I'll have no other choice but to give that a go, thanks. I'll update as soon as I can.

So I plugged the keyboard into my laptop and it is now lagging there too!!!!!!

I think it's the keyboard!!!!

This is so weird, of all my years I have never had a keyboard do this to me.

I'm gonna buy a new one and update.

My new keyboard came in at 7:30pm(PST) and it is now 10:02pm.

NO MORE LAG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am SooOooOOOo glad it was just a keyboard problem!!!!!

SIDE-NOTE

Is it normal for my CPU to sometimes idle around 59-65 degrees?

I was thinking that is a bit high.

is under any load? (look in task manager) for modern intel chipsets they should idle less than 30c but it depends on the room temp (mine idles at 26c at 18-22c room temp) thats without a gpu using the stock cooler

Right now mines is idling around 24c to 32c while browsing and 9 windows open.

It just randomly does it from time to time.

Mines is an AMD chip.

The ONE thing I saw that put it under 99% load by itself was something called "Client Device Mitigation Tool" in task manager.
This thing popped up really quickly and went away just as quick.

I have NO IDEA what this is and even after it went away my computer was still idling around 42c without anything open.

But like I said at the beginning of the post, my current temp right now is around 24c, but from time to time it'll start heating up and I hear the fan spinning rather hard when NOTHING is running.
