8800gt overclocking

ok i know how to do it using msi afterburner but how do i do a bench mark i have heard 3d mark but in the free download there are so many which one should i get and how far can i push this beast.

 

i am not using the stock cooler i did that once and it was suicide 80 degrees and rising after a min in kombuster

 

any help will be appreciated

80deg is fine. That chip can run at 100c and still be fine.

Never use Kombustor either, use games to get temp readings

well i pissed my self when i saw that as i had had it a week and did not want to kill it i have now bought a triple slot cooler on a m-atx motherboard so i am glad i don't have any expansion cards

ok unigien is downloading does it tell me the fps i am getting in it so i can benchmark it and thank you for all of your help guys

The nice thing is that the aftermarket cooler lowers the noise output but it was a waste of money otherwise. 80c is typical and just fine for an 8800GT. I would have saved the money and put it toward a card that's worthwhile though as the 8800GT is a really slow card now in day's. The fact is nvidia says the card can run at 100c and that's the facts. I had GTX 480 that ran at 100c all day long many day's over and the GPU is just fine still to this days after years of use. whats wrong with kobustor i sued it a lot with my 7770

game stability is not same as furmark(aka kombuster) i get my gpus stable with furmark but not with heaven benchmark i have to lower my gpu clock like 100mhz for game stability ,simply if its stable with heaven benchmark it is stable for most of the tasks

I had many cards from nvidia that were designed to run hot between 85 and 100c and they all still run today. So you had a bad card that does not mean the heat killed it. 95c typical max load for a 4870x2.
