SSD Raid 0 + HDD

Go to solution Solved by CurryKeks22,

Ok. Thanks for the answer.

Hey Guys,

I want to upgrade the storage on my PC. I'm thinking about getting 2 Samsung 850 EVOs with 250GB in Raid 0 and a cheap 250GB HDD for random stuff. I don't use somthing including large data and just play games. Now I want to ask is it a good idea to get the SSDs in Raid 0 or should I buy 1 500GB SSD and if I get the SSDs in Raid 0, do I need an extra contoller (I've got an ASUS M5A97 R2.0)? Both solutions cost almost the same.

Buy a single 500GB drive. RAID 0 just (theoretically) doubles the chances of you losing data on the drives. Unless you're making large file transfers a lot, you're not going to see the speed benefits of RAID 0, and it will actually slow boot times a bit, as the controller and array need to be initialised before the OS can boot.
