Sorry for posting about this again but I didn't really get I clear answer, probably because it's very confusing. I'll try to keep it as clear as possible.

My power supply is the XFX XTR 550W. For PCI-E it has one 6+2 connector and one 6 pin connector.

My GPU only requires one 6 pin, but I'm planning to SLI later on.

I bought some cable extensions recently and here's my problem.

The cable extension sockets where you plug the PCI-e cable into has 8 sockets, which is fine because I have a 6+2 connector, so the I only need to plug the end of the cable extension into the GPU.

But my other PCI-E cable only is a 6 pin and the cable extension socket has 8, and I want to SLI.

My Question is would it be possible to plug the 6 pin PCI-E cable from the PSU into the caber extension socket which has 8 but then where the 6+2 pins on the other side only plug in 6 into the GPU.

This will leave me 2 pins on the extension socket without power but I only plug 6 pins into the GPU

I'm sorry if it's really confusing but it's hard to explain.

I'll start on another tangent by saying that a card that only requires a 6 pin connector will almost certainly not be worth SLIing.

if you can plug the 8 pin cable into the 6 pin on the GPU no problem (nothing obstructing the overhanging 2 pins) then you only need to plug in the 6 pin part of the 6+2 cable. the same more or less goes with the other cable. It should also be possible to remove the excess 2 pins on the extension without actually damaging the remaining 6 pins by way of a saw, or something similar.
