Blu Ray Player

Go to solution Solved by HrutkayMods,

you need software to do Bluray on a PC, the best is Power DVD 15, which is what I use. It's sometimes on sale but I got mine for $92, you might be able to find other software out there but it has to be current. Blurays have DRM that changes every once and awhile and the software has to be updated for it, and companies only update for a few years until they expect you to buy a new version of their player. you can get a new player for the TV cheaper than you can get a drive and software. Sony created bluray and still make the best players, you can sometimes get their cheap models for like $40

My mom's Samsung blu ray player has an issue where it studders. Its one of those smart blu ray players, I bought it for her years ago. I checked for software updates and there were none. Some how a disk broke, Im not sure if it happen in the player or not, but I pulled a half of disk out of the player a few weeks ago. I took it apart tonight to check if the other part was maybe stuck in the player. Well every thing looked ok. I even sprayed it out with compressed air to make sure it wasnt dirty.

I see 2 options to fix this issue.

1) Buy a new blu ray player. Which is a good brand? Im not impressed with the current Samsung player. The software was always kinda buggy. The smart features were sluggish and crappy.

2) I could buy a blu ray drive for my desk top. What is a good brand? What software would I need to be able to play blu ray? I would then give my mom my PS3, I dont use it for gaming.

I just want to sit back and watch the world burn.

Other than I know a few year back, that software like VLC wont play blu ray. I would prefer VLC. I head it was an issue with the Codec, and seeing how Sony is, I figured it would never work on VLC.
