So i have this Seagate 2TB drive with a bunch of files on it from backups and my home server, all the data shows up if the drive is in it's enclosure, however if i take it out and just plug it in like an ordinary drive, it shows an empty partition, 1 that needs formating, and some unallocated space, instead of the 2 partitions it should show. Any idea why this is anyone? It's a regular 3.5 inch sata drive, the enclosure has an external power connector and connects via USB 3.0

I ilke trains.

Maybe the external thing is broken? Or it's not powerful enough to get the motor in it going.

No the files show up fine with the external enclosure, it's when i plug the drive into a pc that it doesn't show anything

Oh it's the other way round, my bad :P

It's possible it has to do with IDE and AHCI.

If the HDD is formatted with AHCI, and your bios is configured to run as IDE, it won't work.

Check your bios and check if you are running in IDE or AHCI mode.

Motherboard manual can help you finding your way around and into the bios.
