Audio is messed up and microphone doesn't work

marviinn

Hello, I recently bought a 3.5mm combo splitter for my laptop, which has a TSRR jack, that's a mic and headphone combined jack. So i bought an adapter which splits the headphone/mic combined jack into a seperate mic and headphone jack.

When i plug the adapter in my laptop and then plug my headset in each connector, the sound gets very weird and in mono instead of stereo mode. The mic on the headset worked for 10 min and now i can't find it in microphone selection, such as in Skype. In sound settings it just shows the mic as not available.

If i unplug the headphone jack halfway I get clear sound, but still in mono. Is this a bad adapter or a driver issue?

Either a bad adapter, or it simply doesn't fit all the way in, I'd wager.

Can you tell us the model number of your laptop?
