I am runnning a rig that has a 4790k@4.6ghz and a single stick of 8gb ram at 2ghz, cl10. The computer feels laggy (as in unresponsive) when I am running file compression software to archive my data and this is also experienced when I am using handbrake to compress my videos. Is this normal? I already changed the priority of those tasks to low priority already and yes I am aware that they are very cpu intensive tasks but I did not expect it to have such a huge impact on a 4790k. The lag is especially noticeable when browsing the web with chrome. Not sure if this is due to my cpu or is it due to my ram running in single channel.

You're pinning it to a wall. Anything pinned to a wall will be slow.

@xxxGODxxx follow your topics  ;)

If your cpu is maxed out with workload it will run slower, which is why I set limits on cpu usage with tasks like antivirus scans and file compression so I can do things while they run.

well, if you're maxing out your cpu, no matter what cpu you have, its gonna be sluggish.

when i need my system to be responsive while working with large zip files i set 7zip to leave one thread un-used. i'm sure rendering software can do the same.
