Which 960 to get?

Go to solution Solved by IAcKI,

Hello all, my name is MagikarpDrowned, and I am very new to this forum, so I don't even know if this is in the right place. Anyways... I have a pre-built computer from Dell, and I want to put an NVidia card in it. I have a budget of about $220, so I narrowed my search down to the GTX 960 series. My question is, which 960 should I go for. I want to stay below $200, but I will go up to $220 if I must. Here are some basic specs:

Intel core i7 4790 @ 3.6GHz

NVidia GTX 745 OEM

450w PSU

1TB HDD @ 7200rpm

Custom motherboard with 1 PCIe X16 slot.

I was looking at the EVGA GTX 960 2gb ssc (link here) The price made me happy.

Go for that one with mail in rebate still within Budget

Thanks for the help. Can anyone explain to me what the advantages of having 4gb of frame buffer is? is it worth it if all I will be doing with it is gaming?

4gb of vram is definitely worth it. As a 2gb EVGA 960 owner, the 2gb of vram is frequently maxed out in games.

Ok, thanks.

Agreed, many games now are utilising VRAM more due to bigger texture packs etc. Much needed for modern games

I don´t see how it couldn´t. For the record, you might want to get a better psu.

Yeah, I do need a better PSU. About the AMD however. I was looking on Newegg, and saw that the core clocks were very slow on the AMD card? how does that effect gaming?

Not all hertz are created =. The 380 still does 10-15% better than the 960.

Maybe? No clue what it exactly is, so pretty much very risky maybe.

I think I'm not going to risk it. I just saw some reviews saying it pulled in the neighborhood of 200w under load, which my PC can't handle. I guess I'll go with the more power efficient GTX 960 EVGA 4gb
