I would like to build a pc soon. I am mostly going to use it for playing games on high or ultra like fallout 4, gta v etc. But i would also like ot use it for some 3d modeling work. Is this good enough?

You should definitely add an SSD. Some games might struggle on ultra with a 970 at 1080p but that's really down to anti aliasing, without it you'd be fine.

You dont need z97 to use this Xeon, get something cheaper, I personally would change the GTX 970 to some R9 390

Does your 3D work use CUDA? I assume not so I'd go with a R9 390 instead. Drop the Z97 for a H97 since you're getting a Xeon. Change the PSU and grab a SSD.

you should be fine if your planning on running a 1080p panel,but don't forget the operating system.

 

Adding a ssd,and using it as your boot device can help with windows boot time and may help in certain applications with long loading timers.

Same price, but with a 480gb SSD, and a 390, the 390 is better for gaming overall, but what software are you using? Do you need CUDA or OpenCL?
