Windows Loop?

Go to solution Solved by Minsekt,

Or is it PC3-10600 == (DDR3-1333)?

thats it.

its because DDR stands for Double Data Rate (DDR, DDR2 and DDR3 or now even DDR4) the number following each is the effective clock rate, eg DDR2-800 has clock of 400mhz twice per tick hence the double data rate ( now that multiplies by 8bytes per tick 800x8 = 6400) that memory has to be identified as PC2-6400

so in DDR3 its the same:   just divide 10600 / 8 = 1333 (roughly)

PC3-10600 / 8 = 1333mhz ; 1333 x 8 = PC3-10600

PC3-12800 / 8 = 1600mhz ; 1600 x 8 = PC3-12800

So let's get straight to it.

System Info:

New: 530w Thermaltake 80plus bronze psu.

New: 2x4gb Hyperx ram

New: MSI r7 370

Existing: Can be found here http://h20564.www2.h...docId=c02773898 the 3 new items above are the only 3 things that have changed.

So basically my problem is i have a endless windows loop of "Preparing Automatic Repair" message. I have tried multiple different drives but still the same problem. Have tried clearing cmos. I have read you can stop this from a command promt but if i cant boot into windows/get past this message then how else am i supposed to do this?

Maybe a corrupt copy of Windows? Try doing a fresh install from a bootable USB or DVD drive..

I have tried a ssd from my main pc which i know isn't corrupt and i get the same message, also as for bootable usb it shows the logo of the usb then cuts out and goes back to looping.

try the old ram again, i guess its compatibility issues

did you just add the new ram to the old ones or did you replace them? how did you put them in? right next to each other? only the blue slots? only the black slots?

I have taken the old ram out and currently only have 1x4gb in a black slot.

EDIT: Could ram cause something like this?

yes.

you want your new ram to run in the black slots. but make sure your motherboard can handle the rams voltage, frequency and capacity. try with the old ram first.

whats the windows version thats installed on there? 32bit? 64bit? that could cause problems too. can you post more information about your ram? (like a link where you bought it )

Just tried the old ram and it boots fine. Thanks! Now i need to figure out why the new ram isn't working.

EDIT: Should i add the new ram in the two black slots while keeping the old ram in the blue slot?

EDIT: Here is some info of the hp website

Memory
4 GB
  • Amount: 4 GB

  • Speed: PC3-10600 MB/sec

  • Type: DDR3-1333

Memory upgrade information

Memory upgrade information:

  • Supports DDR3 DIMMs only

  • Dual channel memory architecture

  • Four DDR3 DIMM (240-pin) sockets

  • DIMM types:

    • PC3-10600 (DDR3-1333)

    • PC3-8500 (DDR3-1066)

  • Non-ECC memory only, unbuffered

  • Supports up to 16 GB on 64-bit PCs

  • Maximum memory only if using 4GB DDR3 DIMM modules.

And here is the ram.

is it because its 1866Mhz?

yes its because 1866mhz. your motherboard cant handle it.

also: never combine ramkits

either buy a 4x4gb kit with 1333mhz or a 2x4gb kit and put it in the black slots.

you dont want to combine your old ram with a new kit, always use ram of the same manufacturer and the same partnumber

you can try that, but i dont think that motherboard and bios have the ability to do so

Yeh i think your right i cant see any clock ratio in it. So is there no way around it?

nah, the pnp profiles of kingston are kinda special, normally you have to enable xmp to overclock your ram but kingston ram does somehow always run at the oc'ed frequency without need to setup, thats nice to have but in a case likes yours not really helpfull.

what frequency shows up in your bios if youre using the new ram? in theory the bios would block an increased frequency of pnp profiles if not allowed, but since youre using a hp oem motherbord nobody can really tell if that works.

maybe the frequency is being downclocked to 1333 but the timings are simply to tight, i dont know if it can handle cl10

Yeh is kind of annoying in my situation. Think i am just going to send it back anyway. I did try 1x8gb 1600mhz ram from another pc but it still wont take that. Also I can get to the bios but it doesn't show long enough for me too see.

EDIT: Do you think there Savage memory ram will work? http://www.amazon.co.uk/HyperX-Savage-1600-Memory-Module/dp/B00N8H066A/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1453634059&sr=8-3&keywords=DDR3-1333+2x4gb

no, your motherboard can handle 1333mhz MAX

this one should work. just make sure youre buying DDR3 PC10600 / 1333mhz ram, either 4x4gb or 2x4gb.

Or is it PC3-10600 == (DDR3-1333)?

thats it.

its because DDR stands for Double Data Rate (DDR, DDR2 and DDR3 or now even DDR4) the number following each is the effective clock rate, eg DDR2-800 has clock of 400mhz twice per tick hence the double data rate ( now that multiplies by 8bytes per tick 800x8 = 6400) that memory has to be identified as PC2-6400

so in DDR3 its the same:   just divide 10600 / 8 = 1333 (roughly)

PC3-10600 / 8 = 1333mhz ; 1333 x 8 = PC3-10600

PC3-12800 / 8 = 1600mhz ; 1600 x 8 = PC3-12800
