First time pc build BIOS help

Go to solution Solved by Ryanx77,

Lol thank you.

Hello and thank you anybody that takes the time to help me with this.

When I start my pc I hear no beeps from the speaker and If I don't press anything it immediately goes to the boot from media black screen. But whenever I press F2 to access the BIOS I hear a beep but I only get a black screen.

I cannot figure out what this could be. Before I was having issues with RAM installation (three long beeps upon powering up pc) but that has since been fixed.

Specs:

Asrock z170m pro4s mobo

I3 6100 CPU

EVGA 500W PSU

G-Skill 2400 DDR4 RAM

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again.

So are you using the DVI or HDMI output on the mobo to your display

I made this mistake once so, have you plugged in the 8-pin power into the motherboard for the cpu

Yeah, it's definitely in there. Do you think I possibly have the cpu inserted incorrectly? I made sure the triangle was oriented correctly, didn't hear anything snap or anything when cpu was installed. Did have to use a little force but I believe that's normal I think. I appreciate the help btw.

Really we could only check if you had another cpu that was compatible lying around to see if it was DOA. Do you have a picture of the motherboard? And there shouldnt be a snap really when installing a CPU, and pressure should have to be applied to the CPU itself

All my fans and everything are spinning too, so I don't think the PSU is at fault. I did have the RAM inserted incorrectly at first but I got it to boot.

First thing I saw upon boot was a screen telling me to press f1 or F2 to enter setup. When I did the screen went black, displayed an 83 I believe on the right side of the screen then skipped to the insert boot media screen.

Well spinning fans are a good sign. Remove your boot media, also is it CD or USB. What kind of hard drive are you using?

Could be a UEFI/BIOS mismatch. If you are given the option on boot media between legacy and UEFI, pick UEFI if you can

And try to confirm what code the POST is showing on your screen before it cuts out.

Sorry for the spam, but did you clear the CMOS after fixing the ram issue

No prob I appreciate the help.

No, I didn't clear CMOS. That's removing the battery from the mobo right?

I don't get any options really. When I power on the computer it goes straight to a screen that says: Boot and Select proper boot device

Insert boot Media in selected Boot Device and press any key.

Thats one way but that takes time. In the manual it should mention a jumper that you use to reset the CMOS

So you'll have to forgive me, I believe I e cleared the cmos but I'm not entirely sure. There was a cap on the clrmos1 on the first and second pins and I moved it onto the 2nd and 3rd pins. I'm pretty sure I read the manual correctly. I'll give this another shot lol
