So this happened...

I bought a motherboard off my friend and he forgot to give me the CPU retention plate. Seen here: post-158156-0-86651700-1453416013_thumb.

Do you guys know where to buy one, or will I be fine without it? Also if you need it, its an ASRock Z75 Pro 3.

Well, when it comes to CPU's missing anything, whether from the value of a peasant to a crown, it is important...

It looks as if the peasants have risen up, and found swords!

But their sword's look a little short, if you know what I mean!

Good! The squires need training anyway!

He does. He lives in Canada, I live in the US. Really not worth it to ship it.

No make your friend get you one if you bought it off him unless you got it for like $20

Thats that. If you need to get in touch chances are you can find someone that knows me that can get in touch.

He said he'd give it to me for the price of shipping, because the bios was dead. I bought another chip :)

in linuses sub zero build he doesn't use a retention bracket, but he looks like he is being soooo careful with that cpu... so you don't necisarraly need one, but only if your cooler provides enough pressure to hold it in

Okay.

still tough, before you attempt to do it without one you should definitely check ebay and stuff like that if you can find one.

not using a bracket adds loads of risks.

You might be able to get away with putting the CPU cooler on without the retention arm, but it depends on the cooler. I would put the CPU and cooler on outside the case and then shake it and rotate the motherboard to make sure it stays put. But you should make buying a new motherboard a priority.

Don't install it without the retention plate. Would you rather spend $20 for the plate or $400+ for a new CPU?

How much is it going to cost for your friend to ship it to you?

Something like that is probably your best bet. Broken board for ~$35 w/shipping. A new retention plate (if you could find one) could be that much by itself.
