What are your opinions on HD sentinel? Is it accurate and trustworthy or a pile of tosh?

i'm a neckbeard (unable of growing facial hair..) that prefers booting into linux every so often to check on the heartbeat of his machine.

but really, smart readings cant really be "inaccurate" because the drive itself is gathering and processing them.

So when it says "excellent" to health and performance I can trust it?

Quick question (call me paranoid, it's what my middle name is now). Can a bit of pressure applied on top of the drive area affect it (don't go on a hate train, be objective). It doesn't really flex. IIRC it shouldn't be possible cause some people flat out hit their machines without issue. Am I just overthinking it ._.

well, this one time i needed to reinstall a stysem with very limited connectivity, and had to revert to using the hard drive on its side, with the optical drive on top of that in order to get cables where they needed to be. said system is still running, so i doubt having a bit of pressure on a steel casing is much of a problem...

I see. I mean, I just pressed on it curious about build quality - it didn't budget at all. The soft-rubber wrist-wrest is quite sturdy actually and from the disassembly I saw the HDD is on the bottom end so I guess I am just crazy.

I believe it is turnip.

@don_svetlio

about that status update, i believe this is what they mean by "spam".

it has nothing to do with the thread, neither did the guy try to add some sense to the bottom of his overly-used joke.

My sincere apologies, did not realize that thou would be so offended. In my own opinion, i belive it is a good idea. The question is how they shall limprove it in future versions of their hardware. Shall they add new monitors? Shalt they take some away? As of right now, as i said, it is a good concept. I'm much more interesting in the future of this feature, however...

But their sword's look a little short, if you know what I mean!

Good! The squires need training anyway!

Hey there @don_svetlio,

Worrying about that WD SSHD again? :)
I've always recommended that people use multiple tools to check the health of their storage drives. The S.M.A.R.T. status is actually stored on the drive itself and these tools only read that data. It's a different manner how they test the drives for bad/unreadable sectors.
I would still use the manufacturer's tools plus other well-known third-party tools. :)

If this helped you, like and choose it as best answer - you might help someone else with the same issue. ^_^

Well, HD Tune, WD DLG, HD Sentinel all say it's good so I think I'll stop here :D

EDIT: I came to the realisation that you are right, if the drive is functioning normally with nominal performance then listening and shaking at every slightly different sound it makes with my ear glued to the palm-rest is crossing the border between being responsible and crazy
