Cant delete windows.old

Go to solution Solved by Ophidio,

yes, thats the windows.old folder.

Hi, so i have just updated my windows 10 and for whatever reason it has created a windows.old folder (i already had windows 10 before updating). And now that pesky folder will not delete. okay, so here is what i have tried:

1. Changing permission to gain access to the folder and the underlying files and folders. Did not work, it says i need permission from myself, which doesnt make sense.

2. Using IObit unlucker. No luck, same dialouge as above.

3. Using Unlocker to delete the folder. No luck, same dialouge that i need permission from myself again.

4. Using MoveOnBoot. No friggin luck, it says that there are 5 files in "windows.old" that i dont have access to, i have tried manually to change the permissions, that i was able to. But when i came to the last 2 files i said i need to change permission for, it was 2 files that was not present, i was not able to find them.

I'm pretty frustrated at this point, as it is taking up around 12gb's of my ssd and that is pretty annoying, i have tried anything, i have browsed forums and articles, i am blank.

Any help is extremely appreciated. Thanks in advance!

(Im going to class soon so i wont be able to reply, but i will return as fast as i get home)

You did everything but the right thing. xD You need to click on the disk its on, then go to manage and use the cleanup option. There it will then give you an option to delete the windows.old file.

Did you do disk cleanup then click on "cleanup system files"?

If that doesn't work there's a Hidden elevated Administrator account in windows that ignores NTFS permissions. You probably won't need it though.
