Overclocking question

Festive

Is it possible/reasonable to overclock a laptop CPU/GPU.

I am in the process of building my first desktop so don't worry, but for now I have an MSI Cx61 (i5-4210m , GeForce 820m (ayy) ) I get a solid 10-150 FPS in CsGo and like 30-40 in GTA (low-medium). Would it be worth it or will I just fuck everything up because in inadequate cooling?

Honestly I wanna try just to do it as a small hobby/practice.

P.S I didn't know where to post this so I did eeny meeny miney moe and ended up here.

PPS Don/Ivan don't yell at me.

Some high end laptops do come with overclockable processors / gpu's now but I don't think that laptop has one. Sorry.

It's possible. I did the same with my Dell 15z with Gt 525m and I was able to achieve about 3-5 fps more on low/medium settings which was sometimes a big difference. (25 or 30fps is a whole new world xD). But I think it's under no warranty and it'll need more power (battery is faster empty) and the fans might crank up faster as they did.

LOL. Nah, its not worth it. Like you guessed, the cooling is very inadequate. There are very few laptops that exist that can withstand overclocking and even then it's not worth it. Maybe when 14 nm laptop gpus come it might be a thing. We can only hope.

Using more power (battery drainage) into a problem for me since Its never unplugged unless I'm not using it.

It is definitely worth it! Also if you fuck up your laptop, I will either send you a new one or just buy you a graphics card for your desktop!

Thanks Ivan, you're a great guy.
