Trying to help a friend over the phone. She is getting this error:

 

E:\ 
The directory name is invalid

 

Win10 OS

Ryzen 7 5800X3D , Arctic Liquid Freezer  III , Gigabyte X570 Aorus Elite , Corsair Vengeance 32GB , Gigabyte RTX 5070Ti ,  WD SN850 / MP44L

Sounds like they're trying to access a removable drive, that isn't currently plugged in.

The OS drive is almost always C:\

 

Edit: Oh it's an optical drive, right. The disc in the drive isn't reading for some reason. Make sure it's the right way up.

If it still doesn't work the disc could be corrupted.

She gets the error when she puts in a disc.

The drive shows in Windows.

I installed Windows on it with this drive. (built it for her and her husband)

She has tried 3 different disc's.

 

Could it be something in BIOS?

aaaa we have had many laptops, when that error occurs it has usually always meant that the cd reader thingy is broken(you can try and go to device manager, and then remove all drivers for that optical drive and then install them again, it might work). you can take it out and put new one in if you can find one, or then just use one of those cd readers which connect via usb.

Unlikely. Windows is detecting the optical drive, and detecting that a disc has been inserted - but it can't read the disc. Sounds like a dodgy drive, maybe try what the other Ben said above.

Im going over there tomorow before work and swapping the drive with one i have here that i know works.

Swapped out the drive and everything is good now. And got some fresh baked cookies :)
