Hey I want to do some overclocking, this will be my first time, so I would like some help. I have an i5 3570K  with a Corsair H100i cooler on a MSI Z77 GD65 MOBO. I would like to get 4,2-4,5 GHz OC. Not sure how to actually do it :)

Hope someone can help me out here.

My setup: i5 3570K  - Corsair H100i - MSI Z77 GD65 - 256 GB Samsung 840 pro SSD - Corsair AX760i - Gigabyte GTX 670 Windforce 2GB - 4x4 GB Crucial Ballistix Tactical Tracer RAM - Corsair Carbide 500R (modded side window)

Hi,

So the main things about overclocking are Voltage and the CPU Multiplier. Once you start up you PC go into go into the BIOS and try changing only the Multiplier an keep doing that until you find that system is not stable. Than you push some more Voltage and try again. That's pretty much it. How to make sure the overclock is stable? - You can download a program called Prime95. Just fire it up for 10-15min between every overclocking attempt to make sure that the system is at least a bit stable. After you have reached the the desired clock speed (if your chip is even capable of that), stress test with Prime95 for at least 12h (24h is recommended).

PS: Never forget to monitor your temps! There is a lot of software for that but my personal favorite is called - Real Temp. You don't want your temps to be exceeding 85C when stress testing.

Ok, thank you, I will see to it when I have time for it, I strongly believe that my chip is capable since I have seen i7 3770K 4,5 GHz oc on that MOBO.

Overclocking depends mainly on your processor. If you got a good chip you'll be able to overclock more and squeeze more performance put of it. Nowadays the motherboard has little to do with overclocking.
