Steam Disc Write Error Please HELP

hey everyone i am sorry if this the wrong place for this but i have literally exhausted every other mean.

I am having 2 problems with steam

I cant finish updating some games left for dead 2 and skyrim

i have tried deleting local content and installing from disc everything it wont work i keep getting failed to update disc write 

error. i use steam on an external hdd one for my main computer and one for my laptop. both are seagate backup plus drives 

and i have never had this problem before i dont want to have tto reinstall steam and do a reformat because my game library is around 980 gigs i have error check ran in admin mode everything.

second problem i cant launch any uplay/saints row game on my main gmaming computer have tried everything i think its a platform issue with amd fx and win 8 because on my lan rig with an intel processor everything works please HELP.

Stupid question but....how much HDD space do you have left on that machine ?

 

Secondly have you tried running the good ole 'verify game cache file' option through steam might be that something needs patching there. Right click on game title, properties, local files tab, Verify integrity of game cache ?

 

Oh and check that the steam folder hasn't been set to 'read only' or something like that.

i found the error but i dont how to fix it and yes i have arund 1,020 gigs left on the drive and yes i have ran verify cache

the error is: there is no install base directory

i am so confused i am still having problems with uplay not wanting to launch games and skyrim not installing but for some reason when i deleted the local content on left for dead 2 and tried reinstalling it for like the 8th time it discovered local content which i dont find possible considering i deleted it and now it installed based off those files o well that works but if anybody can help with my other problems that would be great
