Hey guys!

 

So I am wondering, is it possible to limit connections to your machine or router based on latency or jitter?

 

Is this something I can possibly do with QoS? (I understand QoS is more local bandwidth side, just curious.... you never know!)

 

Is there software that I can install which prevents direct p2p based on a ping and/or jitter?

I am sure you can put delays on connections if that is what you are asking

Nah, im looking for software or guides that explain how (If possible), I can stop connections to my computer based on a latency and.or jitter limit.

I think you have your views mixed up.

 

Latency and jitter is about the quality of the internet's connection and not about limiting packets or devices.

 

What i feel you are talking about or referring to is called bufferbloat.

A water-cooled mid-tier gaming PC.

What I am trying to achieve is to be able to play online p2p games without that one guy joining who lives at the other side of the world and on wifi.

 

What I am trying to do is literaly limit who can connect/see my computer at all.

 

For example, if someone with 300 ping tries to directly connect to my machine using my ip address, they get regected because I set the limit to 100 for example.

 

(I do understand that this is not possible on 99% of games because of "player Pools" created by a matchmaking servers.)

One way to do that is to go into your game's .config.inf file and limit the max ping to like say 150, i currently have mine at 100. but the one guy will still be able to join you or another host if they don't have a limiter on the ping.

If you join a host and that host and joining players try to join and they don't have a maxping limit then they can join the host and if say you have the max ping limit but the aforementioned host is within your limit then you can join that match but you would still play with the "bad" ping player too.

 

The only why i myself have been able to combat this is by doing a combination of things...

 

  1. configuring my OS for performance
  2. setting up prpoer QoS for games, devices and programs
  3. making scripts to run on my router to enhance txqueuelen which all equals to very low ping, jitter and bufferbloat.

Not sure I have seen many games with the ability to limit ping using a .ini file but will look into it where  can.

 

I can get pings as low at 30 and sometimes less on certain games which use a p2p system.

 

However I am looking for a hard system limit. For example, if google has 200 ping to me, I don't want to connect to it when I attempt to. (as an example)

 

 

So pretend that there is this game where you only have one 'p2p' player connecting to you at any time(Pretend you are the host). If this guy has 300 ping, I don't want him to be able to join I want them to loose the connection.

 

Same goes the other way around, if I join someone who is hosting and they have 300 ping, I want to see a connection error and be booted.

 

 

There is probobly some kind of payware that allows this but i have no idea what it would be called...
