How would the HE400s compair to the HD650. I already own the HD650 just looking for a secondary pair of headphones that have more punchy bass for when im in the mood for it.

Max budget is about $400.

The 400S is kind of a weird planar headphone since it rolls off at the sub-bass unlike other planar, although you can alleviate that by putting focus-pads or HM5 pads on them.

Tyll said they remind him of the HD 600/650 in stock configuration, so they might not be the best "alternative"/fun headphones.

The 400i on the other hand is a full-fledged planar experience and they often go on $299 flash sale so I think you should wait for that.

Mad Dogs, Alpha Dogs, and Oppo PM3 all are good alternatives as well.

If it's the HE400S, they're way too similar to the 650s to be considered for an alternative headphone.

The HE400 is just way too heavy and uncomfortable.  If you want more bass, consider the K7XX thats on Massdrop right now, they're just K702 Annies with K712 memory foam pads made in China.  If you don't want made in China...I guess get the K712.  But maybe even these would be too similar...
