Hello all,

Sorry if there is a special format or anything that I'm supposed to use, first post, I'll get it right next time if need be :)

I'm looking for some help/advise. I have this rig (see below) and I've never really had issues, until now. I can't play FO4 at anything other than Medium across the board and even still it seems to crash out on me. Antialiasing turned right off, and anisotropic filtering at 8 samples, half of the max 16. (Not going to lie, I don't even know what this one is, I just know it hurt my GPU. Now, this is only the second rig I ever built myself so I know that I'm no expert. I got all these parts at a great sale time so it all sort of fell in to place. I'm wondering what you would suggest I upgrade first. I want to do this in stages as I don't have the cash to just go crazy. Looking at maaaaybe $200 a month over the next few months at most. If I need to save for 2 months to get a GPU then so be it.

I'm not sure if this contributes to my issues in FO4 or not, but at those graphic setting my GPU never goes above 70C and my CPU is barely even utilized @ like 20%, sitting at 30C or so. I haven't played in a few days so the CPU might not be super accurate, I'm thinking it's a GPU issue anyways. I can run furmark for hours and my GPU never overheats, barely gets to 80 to be honest so I'm not to sure.

My main reason for asking is that I want to be able to play Tom Clancys The Division when it comes out, and maybe kick some of my games graphics up to at least High. (Which I seem to be able to run SC2, Heroes of the storm, Company of heroes 2, TF2, Borderlands [all of them], NS2, and the Witcher 3 all at)

Any help or advise would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

Hello all,

Well if your CPU isn't overclocked, which it probably isn't on that motherboard(and you probably shouldn't OC on that board), then you're hitting a bottleneck there a bit

In addition you have more of an entry level GPU fit for light 1080p gaming, so just turn down your settings and you should be fine for getting playable frame rates

$200 isn't going to get you a substantial upgrade, you're probably best off waiting for zen/kaby lake in the summer and saving up a good deal more cash for a major upgrade on the CPU and GPU

Also make sure mutlicore rendering is enabled for fallout 4 if that is even an option

Your CPU should be right under the 8350 somewhere

GPU is right under the 270x at the bottom of the page, should be 60fps no problem aside from the CPU bottleneck

What is your budget/country for your new PC?

what monitor resolution/refresh rate?

What games or other software do you need to run?

Thank you good sir.

Sounds to me like I just need to cough up the cash and get a better GPU and CPU. If I wan to do that, would you suggest a better mobo as well? From what I understand mobos aren't a huge issue, they are mainly for features, which as you can tell I don't utilize much.

Thank you good sir.

That depends a bit, do you have a spare $500 bucks for a decent upgrade?

AM3+ motherboards matter a lot more than intel boards because the CPUs use a lot more power and the IPCs are really low so you need high Ghz

Well, you suggested upgrading in the summer, and if I were to save the $200 a month, I would have between $800 and $1000 for the upgrade. However, I would hope to upgrade and not have to for a couple years.

Would you suggest that I stick with AMD, or make the switch to Intel at that time?

That all just going to depend if Zen is out, it'll fix AMD's low IPC issues, but ya, gotta wait and see. It might not even be out until Q4 of this year, but ya with a thousand bucks in the summer skylake/kaby lake are going to  be cheaper, all the new Graphics cards are going to be out, SSDs are going to be cheaper, I'd wait if you can
