Regular computer and nas

My dad wants me to build a computer and nas combo like what Linus did in the gaming computer and nas video except he doesn't need the gaming part he want it to be a regular work type computer ie:he's only using it to store file a and music and videos as well as use email and excel and general applications I was wondering if a 6600k paired with a Evga ftw edition motherboard is capable to do that ( I already have a 6600k and the motherboard and was wondering if they would work since he's not gonna be gaming with it)
