Okaay so what are my options here.

It seems omce it goes over 2GB vram usage then the card starts to flicker everything black and any graphical glitch you can think of happens.

Rma is not an option and im lost for what to do.

Its an ASUS R9 280X DCUII TOP

You cheaped out and got yourself a Radeon. It's been, what, two-three years now and it's acting up? Hmmmmh... Maybe you should get the new and improved 380X. It's just as cheap too. :D

Or maybe you could be useful and help instead of posting useless comments ;)

Set Memory clock to 1400 and core clock to 1000 via Afterburner. Asus are crap for a reason, they overloaded the VRAM with the stock OC on the top models

Fair enough. As far as I can tell, it's not possible to cap VRAM usage to 2GB which in theory could have helped you. You can drop the settings in games, namely the resolution to try and keep the usage below 2GB Or underclock the VRAM and CPU. But I can only assume, your problem will get worse over time. So sooner or later, you're looking at new hardware. Since you're not going to RMA the one you have, you'll have to buy a new card. Sarcasm aside, I'd suggest an Nvidia for longevity.

under-clock it, the vrm are getting too hot most likely, due to DCU not being asble to cooll them good enough.

->Nvidia

->longevity

960 4gb 128bit bus performing worse than the 380 for a higher price

970 is on par with the 390, but the 3.5gb ram is not going to last long enough compared to the 390

980 is a bit better than the 390x, but the 390x for 100$ less and 8gb of ram is still a win-win, also the nano is now on the same price tag as the 980

For now, getting an nvidia would be either a 950(low end) or a 980ti(enthousiast), i see no other points that nvidia has longevity for now

I have a 980 thank you very much..

It is indeed a heat issue, I have worked it out.

It seems the faster the fans go, the less artifacting there is.

I'm going to do some proper tests now.

That's all on paper. I'm talking about the reliability kind of longevity. I've been an RMA handler long enough to be able to tell that in general Geforce cards last significantly longer than Radeon cards. Both have their problematic models but overall Geforce takes the cake and not by a tiny margin either. They're more expensive for a good reason. If you're planning on using the unit for a mere three years or whatever like that, then by all means, go for the on-paper price/performance. My reasoning is that this'll persist as long as Radeon lags behind in efficiency. It's the extra heat that kills them.

never had any card(nvidia/amd) die on me. it depends on the usage and how well you take care of the card(clean it etc)

And the heat is manageable, they can handle up to 95C fine. Heat is not a problem for these cards. Everyone looks like they have forgotten Fermi
