Im going to build a Pc in a couple in days, but i didnt save enought for my windows OS, currently i own a laptop, i want to know if it is posible to migrate my windows 10 key to my new pc (i want to instal another OS in my lap). Any advices? Thanks in advance.

Absolutely not. You have 3 licenses of Windows:

- OEM (this is for Dell, HP, Acer, Lenovo, etc.)

- OEM System Builder (this is for people who custom build computers. In computer stores it is referred simply as "OEM", but it is not to be confused with the first one)

- Retail

OEM

You cannot buy it, and the product key, since Windows 8, is stored in the system UEFI chip. The license specifically states that you can't transfer it to another computer. Usually, for most laptop, the license cost of Windows is around 50$ (price varies on the system specs, type of device, and target price. It is a special deal that the manufacture do with Microsoft.). The license is also locked on the motherboard. Any attempt in trying to move the copy of Windows to another system will make Windows not activate.

OEM System Builder

You can purchase it. Cost less than Retail license, but you don't have the nice box that you get from the retail package, you don't have the free direct Microsoft support to help you install and get started with Windows 10, and help you troubleshoot problems. Similarly to the OEM license, Windows locks itself to the first motherboard it is installed on. If you plan to upgrade soon your computer, this is not a good buy, as you'll need to re-purchase Windows again with your new PC.

Retail

You pay the most, but you have the nice box, USB flash drive option exists (starting with Windows 10), you have direct Microsoft support to help you install, and get started with Windows, and you CAN transfer your license of Windows from a PC to another one. As long as that Windows is installed on 1 computer at a time, all is good.

He will get alpha/beta builds of Windows 10. Current the file transfer dialog is not working on that build. No way to know that a file transfer has been completed. Is that what you recommend?
