On windows , specifically windows 7 is it possible to take a wired internet connection and using a generic usb wifi card share that connection wirelessly?

If there is can someone link to me the instructions or walk me though it?

Thanks

 You could still make a PfSense box out of a virtual machine if you really wanted to.

So my real issue is my college's rez network, The wifi strength in my room is weak like 2/4 bars, there is an ethernet jack but your only allowed 2 ip addresses before they lock you out , the two you are allowed are, your room phone and one computer , i run a nas in my room , do you think that with the setup of ,

Wall jack into my PC sharing wifi,

usb ethernet adapter with a cord into my old router

router into my NAS

and all my phones and devices connecting wirelessly

wall-->PC -->wireless

             |

          router -> NAS

will this let me connect to my NAS but not blow my 2 IP limit.

Ps "why not just use the router?" they block you if they see a router.

Remember anything connected to your school's network will be assigned an IP by your school's DHCP server, so you theoretically only have 1 IP to play with since 1 is already dedicated to your phone. Also, connecting a router may not work because A. a router cannot work in a network with a router already present (your school's assigning IPs) and B. Only way it'd operate is if you set it as an access point, which if you do, you'd still be caught. Even if it did work, the AP would tell your school's router to assign whatever device you're connecting through it an IP, and therein lies the 2 IP restriction--tl;dr, wouldn't work.

There are many routes to go about this, I mean do you NEED to have a phone in the room? It sounds like you guys use either IP phones or digital lines. Does that jack on the wall which your phone connects to let you connect to the internet?
