I plan on giving my sister the 7850 and taking her 7770. Also, I want to get an AM3 Phenom 6 core and 8GB ram, so that will be fine?

Yes that would be good. I have a athlon x4 and it can handle most of the stuff I do, sometimes it is a little slow. I am running 3 monitors though.

I would get a better gpu. Also the ram will not be enough. I saw in your sigg that you will get a new gpu, use the 7850, that will be good. The cpu might also be a little weak, depending on what you are doing. It would definitely struggle with steam big picture.

I would get an APU to be honest, then you won't have to buy a dedicated GPU.

True, but I have the 7770 and AMD CPUs are well-priced.

If you have a microcenter close by, you can not beat there amd deal. I wouldn't go with a intel build on haswell unless you have a dedicated card. Their new driver roll out has messed with the way xbmc displays, so unless you have Ivy-bridge and below, do not do a intel build.
