Hey guys,

Is it possible to have an OpenVPN connection set up on an ubuntu server (this is the client) and only have traffic going through a specific port(s) to go through that OpenVPN connection while all remaining traffic goes through the local network?

One purpose of this would be to run a squid proxy server which will be accessible by the local network, and will forward all data through that OpenVPN connection.

Would it be better to virtualise a separate ubuntu server dedicated to this process?

Sorry if this is hard to interpret.

Any help would be appreciated :)

Thanks rufee,

I most likely will have two interfaces but is it possible to create a virtual interface for the OpenVPN connection? (This would save me a cable and port)

I am able to do this on a Windows OS at the moment but I am a newbie with Linux so I really don't know what I am doing haha.

Another question,

Can the Ubuntu server act as a bridged VPN gateway one one interface while being connected to the other VPN tunnel on either a virtual interface or separate physical interface?

If what I said doesn't make sense, essentially I want clients to be able to connect to the Ubuntu server and access the local network (through the internet) via OpenVPN while still having that other VPN connection which is dedicated for a few tasks such as the squid proxy server directing traffic through that tunnel.

Thanks again :)

Could make a diagram-like thingy to visually explain what you're trying to connect with what and through what? I can't seem to figure out your written explanation :S

Also: it should be possible to define a virtual network interface. I haven't worked with neither openVPN or Squid, so I don't know the specific capabilities of those two.
