Hey Linustechtips forum mems, I've got a question about upgrading phones. I'm not very adept with cell phones, or any of the plans for that matter

Long story short, and try not to hate on my story here, but my mom needs a new cell phone. She's got a iphone 4, and recently the speaker/microphone/homephone button are all reaching the end of their lives

She's terrrrrrible with android. We've gone into the store, and she's tried a few of the android devices S4, S3, and others. The only way she can use a cell phone is by keeping with the same iOS and familiarity of the iphone 5.

She doesn't want to pay an ungodly price of a 2 year contract, or pay an absurd 600 dollars for the new iphone 5.

Can she just get a cell phone from a secondary source (Iphone 5), and keep her current plan, and transfer her cell # to the new phone?

She's got an AT&T service because most of our family is already of that plan and can make calls to those people for free.

Btw if it helps I live in the U.S. michigan

Did you guys not understand the question... Can i just get her a iphone 5 and transfer her number over? I know where to get used stuff it's the most uncomplicated thing.

just looking for some reassurance here

if the sim card fits yes and if the handset is unlocked or on the same network usually yes but I believe the iPhone 5 uses a nano sim so its different from the sim in the iPhone 4

Mate it shouldn't be a problem to cancel one sim and put the service on another. Just make sure you request the right sim size. If they, for whatever reason, have a problem, go to another store and say you lost the phone. They'll cancel that dim and guide you through getting another. This doesn't change your plan in any way, you're only getting a new sim on the current contract to fit the new phone.
