Receiver doesnt like HDMI passthrough?

OK, I still have problems, but have narrowed it down.

If:

I connect my monitor to my computer, and run a seperate HDMI cable to my receiver, making their be another "virtual monitor" existing, my audio works fine.

If:
I connect my monitor to my computer, run a hdmi cable to my receiver, and connect a secondary monitor to the HDMI passthrough on my receiver, I dont get picture on the second monitor, or audio, untill about an hour and a half after I turn everything on.

Ideas?

Im out of them....

Receiver is an Onkyo TX-Sr606 prone to HDMI failure, but I performed the fix and soldered on new capacitors. My previous Sony receiver had similar, but different problems.

I could run some tests on other devices other than a PC, as windows is not especialy home theater optimised

At this point isn't a TOSLINK cable just an easier solution?

If only.

Games have little support for optical surround.

Have you tried making the reciever (or since it's passthrough it might show up as your TV/monitor) your primary monitor in Widows?  There might be some weird handshake going on.  The reciever might not be able to grab the audio if it's listed as a second monitor, and without audio it might not be able to make the picture.  I'm just guessing though.

I had a similar Onkyo that died.  I had to turn something off in the HDMI options if I wanted to hook up my laptop.  I can't for the life of me remember what it was.  I don't think it was ARC, it might be CES, but I think it was some kind of auto detect or auto switch option.  So it might be worth it to fiddle with the HDMI options.
