Please help me do ssd stuff

Go to solution Solved by Harry Livesley,

You don't need to use the wizard. The SSD will work fine out of the box

wasnt working, i got it too though so no worries.

So i want to install one of the two ssds i bought, but have no clue what im doing, as far as physically installing goes, all i know is to plug sata and power in and screw it into a bay. The most important part comes with moving my data over to it. This is NOT my OS drive, a friend that helped me build my pc is coming over to do that for me. Things i need help with:

Moving from HDD to SSD

Chrome
Skype
Steam
Fallout 4
Nexus Mod manager and all mods (if it adds a performance boost, i dont know how mod loading works)

Things i think are complicated:

Keeping the majority of my games installed on the HDD, while being able to install new ones on both the HDD and SSD depending on if it needs the performance boost or not.

Also, if there is anything else that would i could massively increase the performance of by putting it on the ssd, or, if anything i have asked for wouldnt have a performance increase or just wouldnt be worth it, please tell me, and thank you in advance if anyone helps me.

To move your steam games to ssd. There is very little reason why you would want to move the actual steam program because it is a very light application. Chrome is pointless as well. But if you really want to you need to reinstall chrome on the ssd.

Mods are just stored in folders within the game files. You need to copy those over to the ssd.

Basically the essential launch files are still on the old drive(not more than a couple MB). This is because Steam will think your game is uninstalled if the launch path is changed.

Yes. The actual launch files are basically just a URL that directs to the Steam application. Game files which make up 99.99% of the files will be moved so you'll see the performance improvement.

To install games on your ssd you need to create a new Steam Library install path in the settings menu. http://www.mameau.com/add-existing-steam-library-folders/
