Ok, let me first start off by saying im a total overclocking noob. This will be really my first overclock (I don't count blindly messing around with some numbers on my AMD APK-5800 to get the base clock from 3.9GHz to 4.0GHz, and don't worry I have a discrete GPU to go along with that APU). Anyway I'm not entirely sure what numbers I should be expecting or what I should be setting my voltage to etc.

So I will be getting a 4790K clocked at 4.0GHz. From my understanding its difficult to estimate what I can overclock it to however I was wondering if anyone had any idea what I numbers I might be getting and any tips for overclocking this processor. I will be using an ASUS Maximus VII Ranger as my motherboard (If that makes a difference) and a H100i GTX to cool it. Thanks in advance.

Current Build: CPU - AMD 5800K 4.2GHz w/ Stock Cooler :( | Motherboard - ASRock FM82A88 Extreme 4 Plus | Memory - Crucial 8GB Single Stick 1600MHz | GPU - AMD Radeon R7 260X 2GB | Storage - Seagate Barracuda 1TB 7200RPM

It depends on binning so always a lottery. I have had mine at 4.9ghz just playing with volts and multi, I suspect I could get more if I went deep, but I don't have a need at the moment

Start at 4.5ghz at 1.35v, then run stress tests to ensure it's stable, if its not, turn it down, rip lousy chip, if it was stable, turn it up gradually and test it over and over until you find the highest stable clock, rmr all cpus are different

Leave a like if you breathed oxygen today

i7-4790K has a good base clock and turbo boost already, you might not even need to overclock it yet.

Maybe wait for some time and see how you like it at stock.
