Greetings:

Its been a really long time since I've messed about in the guts of a PC... (read 486 with a whopping 8 mgs ram)

I've been using macs for the last 16 years, and am excited and ready to make the change back to "really" computers.  But so much has changed that even with many hours of internet research, without practical experience, well....its pretty daunting.

So, Heres what I've come up with.  Your suggestions and comments are welcome and appreciated.

Thanks

Rob (sterling42)

I'd change the PSU to a XFX/SeaSonic/EVGA G2 one. The NEX series is 'meh'.

Also, don't get the ASUS model of the 380, the cooling is garbage. I'd get another variant instead.

I think the STRIX version is really good

ASUS' coolers are usually the worst for AMD cards.

But if the STRIX worked out for you, that's fine, I won't contest your opinion.

Add an ssd, its an excellent upgrade to its latency overall, maybe get the 4690k so u can overclock it after getting a better cooler.

SSD is definitely on the list of things to get eventually.  This started off as a cheapo build, but got "not cheapo" real quick.  I decided on the Hybrid to start, but add the SSD when funds permit...probably sometime in 2020.

Why not make a better pc? Since u are the kind that buys macs

The only Mac product I have Purchased with my own money was my iPhone 4.  (i Loved that phone).  Everything else has been hand me downs.  oh...and a track pad, which is great for surfing the net with the left hand.

Its kind of funny that I was content with all of the components except the Motherboard, which I'm still waffling over a bit.  From what I can find on the net...all of these products are well rated, but Motherboards seem to be in a different category.  Hard to find definitive answers about them.

I'm not completely sold on "overclocking".  The more power thing definitely appeals to my testosterone, but Is the extra bit of power you wring out of the processor  actually going to make a difference?

I'd never consider myself more than a casual gamer, but when I do play, I like games to work well.  Screen tears and stuttering drive me crazy, Theoretically though, with the equipment listed here, that shouldn't be a problem.
