Id love to see a video putting 8 samsung 950 pros in raid 0. Maybe use asus z10pe d8 ws. I confirmed with asus you can raid the m.2 slot with the pcie m.2 adapter cards.

He has 26(?) SATA III drives in 3 raid 5 arrays. I think that is far more impressive than 8 950s. No offense. Also, if one drive goes bad, the whole thing is FUBAR.

I wonder how long it will be until he's over the memories of his 8 refurbished SSDs in RAID 0 :)

Solve your own audio issues  |  First Steps with RPi 3  |  Humidity & Condensation  |  Sleep & Hibernation  |  Overclocking RAM  |  Making Backups  |  Displays  |  4K / 8K / 16K / etc.  |  Do I need 80+ Platinum?

I don't know of any motherboard with 8 M.2 slots, and even if you added PCIe to M.2 adapters for more drives, I still don't think you'd have enough room for 8.

(Maybe there's a way of doing this, but afaik, it's not possible).

If you want to see 8 SSDs being put in RAID 0, look at Linus' older person build updates.

I actually couldn't underclock my 5 year old GPU to make it as slow as a next-gen console.

thats why you only load the OS on it. lol

I found one with 8 actually. Its huge though.

Yeah the whole idea seems a little bit impractical IMO.

So was 7 gamers 1 cpu.

we've already started to see manufacturers make custom parts specifically for Linus (that 7 GPU waterblock for example); maybe we'll see them custom design and make him an over the top RAID card :D

That's a valid point, but running 8 SSDs in RAID 0 seems like something that's already been done so many times, and honestly, if you have the money, it's not that difficult for anyone to do.

The thing about 7 gamers, 1 CPU, is that it's a very unique video that would be impossible for any one person to do on their own. Although it's impractical, that's what makes it so much more interesting to watch than running 8 SSDs in RAID 0. Everyone knows what's going to happen if you run 8 SSDs in RAID 0. They're gonna be really fast. What else is there to talk about?

Ok, fair point there. Although it would still satisfy my weekly tech porn requirements.

I kind of doubt that. The waterblock is simple as its just splitting coolant. Its basically a piece of plastic that doesnt actively do anything. One of us might even be able to 3D print one. I'm not too familiar with raid cards but I think thats a much more involved process to create. You need to design a custom PCB and possibly create a custom chip. These are things that the big companies are definitely capable of, but take time. Like months or years, not a couple weeks before one of Linus's videos. The time and resources they would have to put into that just wouldn't justify the little return on their investment.

You dont need m.2 slots, pcie works the same. I listed a compatable mb. Asus z10pe d8

950 pros already read 1GBps, I think it would an interesting setup

He obviously wouldn't keep it as a permanent solution

Don't be so salty with his suggestion

If you add up the numbers, the 8 905s should be much faster.

I was talking about sheer immensity, not speed. Sure they may be faster, but far less... safe.

Not trying to be salty, just don't think it's gonna happen.
